Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty in ably assisting and seconding the efforts of Sergeant BROWN on the night 31st May, 1918, near LOCRE, where a party of limbered G.S. wagons had been detailed to withdraw gas projectors. Whilst assembling in a paddock 200 yards from the line the enemy heavily shelled the paddock with H.E. and gas shells, causing heavy casualties. This N.C.O. materially assisted Sergeant BROWN in withdrawing the wagons and teams to a place of safety, and gave valuable assistance in withdrawal of wounded from wrecked wagons until he himself was wounded. he set a splendid example to all ranks.'
