'During the operations south of PASSCHENDAELE on 26th October, 1917 he was one of the Infantry carrying party attached to the Engineers for the construction of a strong point in the final objective. Throughout the operations he displayed the greatest resourcefulness, courage and devotion to duty. His work throughout the day was of the greatest assistance in achieving the completion of a valuable defensive work and set a great example to all around him.'
