Proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 12 April 1915. Wounded in action, 28 June 1915 (gun shot wound, right side); admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Ghezireh, Egypt (wound and rheumatism), 2 July 1915; discharged to Base Details from Helouan Convalescent Camp. 9 August 1915; marked fit for active service, 11 August 1915.

Commenced return to Australia, nursing duties on board HMAT 'Port Sydney', departed Suez, 24 June 1916; arrived Melbourne, 22 July 1916.

Re-embarked Melbourne on board HMAT 'Hymettus' with AMC Details, 12 September 1916; disembarked, 18 October 1916. Taken on strength, 1st Light Horse Training Regiment, Moascar, 30 October 1916. Transferred to 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital, Moascar, 25 November 1916; taken on strength, 2 ASH, 26 November 1916. Transferred to 14th Australian General Hospital, 18 May 1917; taken on strength, 14 AGH, Abbassia, 19 May 1917. Transferred to 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance, 24 January 1918. Found guilty, 16 April 1918, at Ghoraneye, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, in that on 15 April 1918 he failed to appear on parade correctly dressed though previously warned to do so: awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of 10/-.
