Wounded in action, 26 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left buttock, thigh, right leg), and admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 28 August 1916; to England, 30 August 1916, and admitted to 3rd Western General Hospital, Cardiff, 31 August 1916; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 10 October 1916.

Marched out to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham (temporarily unfit), 3 November 1916; to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 29 March 1917; to Drafting Depot, Perham Downs, 5 April 1917; to 17th Brigade, Windmill Hill, 25 April 1917; to 66th Bn, 28 April 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 23 October 1917; rejoined 21st Bn, in the field, 29 October 1917.

Admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, 12 January 1918 (septic finger, right hand); transferred to 53rd General Hospital, Boulogne, 25 January 1918; to England, 31 January 1918, and admitted same day to Endell Street Hospital; transferred to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 20 February 1918; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 28 February 1918; marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 March 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ruahine', 12 May 1918; disembarked Sydney, 5 July 1918; discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 21 September 1918.
