Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous pluck and determination in Mesopotamia, on 1st August 1915. He assisted to pole a "bellum" (long flat bottomed boat) 28 miles in twelve hours in most intense heat, in order to rescue aviators who had been forced to descend in the enemy's country.'
