Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on 14th November, 1916 near GUEUDECOURT during the attack on GIRD TRENCH M.24.A.c in establishing communication with F.O.O. who had advanced to a position between our 'take off' line and objective. This man with great coolness crawled for the last 20 yards with telephone and wire under heavy hostile Artillery barrage and machine gun fire. This act was the more gallant in that this man had seen two other artillery linesmen killed and one wounded in the same endeavour and two infantry men killed passing the same spot. He succeeded in reaching the place, but his telephone was rendered unserviceable by water. He then made the same journey three times as runner. This gunner is in possession of a military medal vide 1st ANZAC R.O's dated 4th October, 1916.'
