Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 28 September 1915 (haemorrhoids); transferred same day to HS 'Glenart Castle'; to No 5 Field Ambulance, 2 October 1915; to No 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo, 4 October 1915; to Convalescent Camp, Suez, 11 December 1915; rejoined unit, Ghezireh, 28 December 1915. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 27 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 3 April 1916. Wounded in action, 24 July 1916 (gun shot wound, face, cheek); admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 26 July 1916; transferred to England, 29 July 1916, and admitted to Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington, 30 July 1916.
