Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at VAIRE WOOD, south eat of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. Shortly after the hop off a shell burst killing the Platoon Sergeant and cutting off the rear party consisting of 2 Vickers guns and alight trench mortar. The platoon was detailed to establish and garrison a special strong point. Corporal BARKER re-organised this rear party and carried it through to the allotted position where he rejoined his Battalion. On his way over a fortified shell hole opposed them but this he at once charged taking 6 prisoners and killing the remainder. His courage and example added to his prompt grasp of the situation were a vital factor in the establishment of the essential strong points.'
