Military Medal 'During severe shelling of the village of MILLENCOURT, West of ALBERT, on 31st March 1918 at about 4 p.m., Sergeant J.G. Hendry proceeded with Private J. RIMSHAW to dig out eight men who had been buried by a direct hit on a cellar. Sergeant J.G. HENDRY worked for one and a half hours at imminent peril during heavy shelling, and by his fine example induced others to help. As a result, five men were rescued alive. But for his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty these men would have soon died from suffocation, as did the other three.'
