Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Proyart on 23rd August 1918. When his battery took up a forward position at zero hour under a heavy barrage, he and another officer and several men were wounded. Notwithstanding his wound, he carried on his work, passing from gun pit to gun pit under continual shelling, encouraging his men to keep up the rate of fire, and setting a fine example of confidence and endurance until his strength failed.'
