'In the attack on LIHONS on 10th August 1918 Private BARKER took his gun forward to a most exposed position through heavy Machine Gun fire to the left flank of the 5th Australian Infantry Battalion which was encountering violent opposition. By his splendid courage in moving his gun forward regardless of personal safety, and bringing it into action, he materially assisted in consolidating the position and inflicting many cadsualties in the counter attack.'
