Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at HAMEL WOOD, south east of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. Acting as Company runner he proved fearless and indefatigable in his duties. At one stage he carried an important message to the troops of the Battalion on our left all the time being under heavy machine gun fire from a strong point on the ridge. As a result of his message and his personal observation they were enabled to encircle and silence the enemy guns. Throughout the operations he continually ran the barrage with messages showing complete disregard for his own safety.'
