Taken on strength, 53rd Bn in the field, 8 September 1917. Transferred to 54th Bn, 5 October 1917. To Paris on leave, 9 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 17 February 1918.

Wounded in action (gas), 23 April 1918; treated at 14th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station. Admitted to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 25 April 1918; died of wounds (gas) received in action, 29 April 1918.
