'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty. On 9th October, 1917, at ANZAC HOUSE this man was in charge of a pack mule carrying ammunition to the forward dumps. He made repeated trips through the heaviest barrages. When casualties occurred this man went to their assistance regardless of his own safety, attended to the wounded and despatched the stretcher bearers. He then resumed his duty and carried on for a long period until completely exhausted. his excellent work had a great influence on the other men of the transport section.'
