Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in command of a company throughout the operations, and led them with unerring skill and judgment. Seeing the flank company held up by machine gun fire, he at once assisted them with part of his company, and personally went forward, shot four of the gun team, and captured the remainder, thus allowing the advance to continue. His prompt and courageous action undoubtedly saved many lives. He showed great knowledge in selecting his final positions and set a splendid example to his men throughout.'
