Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 10 August 1918, near Lihons, when the company was held up by extremely heavy machine gun fire. He and one man went forward and captured the gun, killing the crew of six. They then got the gun into action against the enemy. The next day he did some most useful daylight patrol work, showing courage and initiative on all occasions.'
