Military Medal

'For gallantry and exceptional devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer during an enemy attack on 46th Battalion near ALBERT on April 3rd, 1918. The enemy put down a heavy barrage on our position which was a high railway embankment. Lance Corporal HILDEBRAND climbed up and down the embankment through Artillery and Machine Gun fire, carrying to safety many of the men who had become casualties. he attended to his work with vigour and only stopped when completely exhausted. The cheery manner with which he carried out this dangerous work had a very encouraging effect on the remainder of the Company.'
