Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty on the night 24/25th June, 1918. While in charge of two lorries detailed to stand by at cross-roads 1000 yards west of Petit See Bois to wait for a fatigue party a heavy enemy barrage was placed on the cross-roads. Disregarding personal safety he moved his lorries towards HAZEBROUCK garage. The enemy again placed a barrage on the roads in the vicinity shells falling on both sides of the road where the lorries were parked up. He gain moved his lorries further along the road but the shells continued to fall in quick succession. One shell wounded him and all his drivers, two very seriously, and also two members of the fatigue party who were beginning to arrive back at the lorries. With great coolness and forethought he located the least wounded of the 3 drivers and moved the lorries further down the road. he then went back stopped a passing field ambulance and had all the wounded except one driver taken to a dressing station. Although wounded in the shoulder he drove his lorry and delivered the fatigue party at their camp, afterwards calling in at a Field Ambulance to have his injuries dressed and then proceeded to his unit where he again reported for medical treatment. By his courage and devotion to duty he saved serveral casualties.'
