Proceeded overseas to France, 13 April 1917; taken on strength, 2nd Field Company Engineers, 21 May 1917. Wounded in action, 20 September 1917; admitted to NZ Stationary Hospital, 22 September 1917 (not yet diagnosed); transferred to Ambulance Train, 7 October 1917 (classified ' shell shock'), and admitted to 32nd Stationary Hospital; transferred to England, 19 October 1917 (shell shock and bronchitis), and admitted same day to Kitchener War Hospital, Brighton (bronchitis: severe); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 12 November 1917; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 19 November 1917. Marched out to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 May 1918.
