Marched in to 1st Training Bn, Sutton Veny, 26 December 1917. Medical Board recorded, 19 March 1918, that 'patient admits that he is 45 years old; he looks his age. He is unable to continue his training on account of pain in back ... also breathlessness. Judged unfit for general service.' Marched out to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 13 April 1918.

Commenced return to Australia from Plymouth on board HT 'Gaika', 12 May 1918; disembarked Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane (date not recorded); discharged (medically unfit), 7 August 1918.
