Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In spite of heavy machine gun fire, which caused 60 percent casualties he rallied his men and reached the objective. Owing to the right flank unit being held up he skilfully formed a defensive flank and held the position until reinforced.'
