Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 66 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'During the attack East of VILLERS BRETONNEUX, near AMIENS on the morning of the 8th August 1918, this N.C.O. was in charge of lines. On arrival of the Brigade Forward Party at their objective, it was found that the lines had been cut behind them. Sergeant HINCKFUSS immediately set out himself with his Corporal, and personally mended these lines under a heavy enemy barrage. During the attack on the afternoon of the 9th August 1918, he took charge of the Brigade Forward Station. While the positions of Battalions were still obscure, Sergeant HINCKFUSS set out to find them and then returned, superintending the laying of all lines under heavy shell fire. It was entirely dur to this N.C.O. with the assistance of Corporal ALLSOPP, that communication was obtained to Battalions.'
