War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 30 October 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 27 December 1917, and marched in to Pioneer Training Bn, Sutton Veny. Transferred to 32nd Bn, Codford, and taken on strength, 2 January 1918. On Command, School of Cookery, Tidworth, 19 January 1918; marched in to 15th Training Bn from On Command, 16 February 1918. Marched in to 14th Training Bn, 11 April 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 10 June 1918; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 22 June 1918. Wounded in action, 6 July 1918 (High Explosive shell wound, head, fractured skull, left arm), admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 5, 18 July 1918, and admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 19 July 1918; transferred to England, 25 July 1918, and admitted to Kitchener War Hospital, Brighton, 26 July 1918 (head wound: severe); transferred to 2rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 21 August 1918; discharged on furlough, 26 August 1918, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 9 September 1918.
