'Private HIRSCHAUSEN has been through a number of stunts, and has always shown great courage and devotion to duty. On 3rd October, 1918, at GRANDCOURT, east of AMIENS, this man was detailed to take despatches in company with Private [6149 R.] ROBERTS, to all companies during the battle. These two men had to pass through heavy shell fire and intense machine gun and rifle fire. They were once partially buried by a 5.9" shell, but nothing daunted, they carried out their perilous duties and set a fine example of courage, determination, and devotion to duty.'
