Wounded in action, 22-25 July 1916 (gun shot wound, head); admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 27 July 1916; transferred to England, 28 July 1916, and admitted to 3rd Western General Hospital, Cardiff, 29 July 1916 (wound: slight). Taken on strength, No 1 Command Depot, 17 August 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 15 September 1916; rejoined 7th Bn, Belgium, 29 September 1916.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 2 April 1917; Temporary Corporal and then Corporal, 27 September 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 5 December 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 24 December 1917.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 4 May 1918 (wart on penis); transferred same day to New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Wisques; discharged to duty, 23 May 1918 (non-venereal); rejoined unit in the field, 26 May 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 13 June 1918 (shrapnel wound, left side), and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 15th Casualty Clearing Station; to 53rd General Hospital, Boulogne, 15 June 1918; to England, 30 June 1918, and admitted same day to General Military Hospital, Edmonton (gun shot wound, left side and abdomen); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 9 July 1918; discharged on furlough, 11 October 1918, to report to No 4 Command Depot, 25 October 1918.

Charged with being absent without leave, 25 October 1918; lateness excused, 29 October 1918.
