Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and determination near Lihons, 10 to 12 August, 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of two Stokes mortars, which he handled with great ability. Pushing his guns forward with the advancing waves, he brought them into action in an exposed position swept by machine gun fire, and did excellent work, covering the advance of the infantry.'
