Military Medal 'During the attack on MONT ST. QUENTIN on 1st September, 1918, this N.C.O. showed great daring and disregard of danger in reconnoitring for Machine Gun positions. he discovered an enemy Machine Gun nest which was holding up the infantry. He bravely mounted his gun on the parapet and opened fire on the nest, although he was exposed to heavy Machine Gun fire and persistent close sniping at the time. He also directed a rifle bomber on to the spot and then as the enemy fled from the bombs every one was accounted for by Sergeant Hodge's machine gun. This action was done under hot fire and demanded courage and initiative.'
