'During the attack on 11th August 1918, against RAINECOURT, East of AMIENS, this man displayed exceptional courage in cutting off a party of retreating enemy. After the objective had been reached he noticed four of the enemy vacate a post and retire to another position. Without rushing the position from the flank, completely surprised the enemy. With his bayonet he wounded two of the enemy whom he took prisoner, the remainder effecting their escape. By this gallant act he set a noble example to his comrades.'
