'For conspicuous gallantry on the night of 4th/5th March 1918 during raid on enemy trenches in vicinity of WARNETON. He was leading bayonet man of one of the Right Assault parties which penetrated to enemy support line system. He had to fight the whole way and himself accounted for many of the enemy. His determination was a great factor in enabling the party to reach its objective.'
