Military Cross 'In the operations on the 8th August 1918, in front of Villers-Bretonneux, near Amiens, he showed conspicuous gallantry and great initiative. A thick fog covered the atack, and the advancing troops became very mixed. He several times, with any men he could collect, attacked enemy strong posts and positions. He personally accounted for five of the enemy and sent back thirty prisoners. On the 9th August, 1918, in the advance towards Rainecourt, he showed great gallantry in organizing the attacking line under very heavy machine gun fire.
