Military Medal

'At BONY on 29th - 30th September, 1918, he did excellent work with the Bearer Squads, working under heavy enemy fire. He has distinguished himself on several occasions during the advance along the SOMME in August and September, 1918. While in charge of a stretcher squad throughout the whole of the operations, August 8th - August 21st, he displayed great courage and disregard of his own safety in the performance of his duty. His energy and initiative in the formation of bearer squads from enemy prisoners prevented the accumulation of wounded, and greatly reduced the time of evacuation on many occasions. He worked almost continuously for twenty six days, being for the whole of this period in the forward area, and exposed daily to shell and machine gun fire.'
