'On the 26th March near NOREUIL this N.C.O. advanced from the post which had been established on the Left of our new line, with a Lewis gun, to a position which enabled him to stop an advance in short rushes by the enemy. he fought his gun with coolness and inflicted severe losses on the enemy until his gun was put out of action by shell fire, and he himself wounded.'
