Military Medal 'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty. On 9th October, 1917, at BROODSEINDE, he acted as an observer and did most excellent work in exposed positions, remaining on duty for long periods. Later, he volunteered to establish communication with a detached post, and under heavy fire succeeded in locating the post and communicated its positions to the supporting troops. in spite of physical strain and exhaustion he continued voluntarily on duty until relief arrived.'
