''For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He handled his company with great skill when the battalion moved up to meet an enemy attack, saving casualties by his careful arrangements. Bar to Military Cross

'During the attack west of Bellenglise, on 18th September 1918, he commanded a company. SHortly after the advance commenced the battalion on the right was held up, but by the gallant and able leadership of his company he enabled his battalion to attain its objective. After arriving at the objective he displayed great courage in leading a small party beyond to attack the crew of a 5.9 battery, all of whom were killed or captured, and the guns taken. He set a splendid example to all.'
