Military Medal

'On the night of 10th/11th August, 1918 during Lt-Col. an advance towards BRAY-Sur-Somme this man, who is a stretcher bearer, was conspicuous for his gallantry and energy in attending to the wounded under close range machine gun fire. he not only carried out his duties efficiently but his coolness under fire inspired other men about him. Again on the 13th August under very heavy shelling he spent half an hour in an exposed position digging out a man who had been buried by the explosion of a shell.'
