Military Medal

'On the 6th/7th/8th and 9th June, 1917, during the operations south of MESSINES, for magnificent work and personal bravery whilst acting as a runner from his Company Headquarters. He carried important despatches to the rear, and to the flanks, through intense enemy barrages, and assisted greatly in maintaining communication with the Battalion Headquarters. During one trip to a flank Company, he, alone and unaided killed two of the enemy. Throughout the whole operation he set a splendid example to all ranks by his coolness and bravery.'
