Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while in action near BROODSEINDE on the 17th/18th October, 1917. He was one of the Company's stretcher bearers and owing to the Regimental Bearers becoming casualties early on the 17th October, 1917, he had to continue these duties. At great personal risk and under continuous and heavy shell fire he attended to the wounded in all parts of the trench system. Scarcely could a call be raised for stretcher bearers before he was there to render the necessary assistance to wounded regardless of personal risk. Although the carry to the dressing station was long and through heavily shelled and rough country, he organised his squads and was untiring in his efforts for the wounded. His conduct throughout was particularly cheerful and willing and he set a splendid example to his comrades.'
