Military Medal 'Near BEAUMETZ les CAMBRAI on night 12/13th May he was in charge of two guns en route from BEUGNY to near DOIGNIES under the direction of another N.C.O. as guide, when they reached a point in the road that was suddenly shelled. The second shell killed the guide and his horse and wounded Sergeant HOSE, who, however, remainined, kept control of the teams and led them away from the shelling at a trot, to a safe position about half a mile away. On being lifted from his horse Sergeant HOSE was found to have sustained severe wounds in the leg, forearm and side and is now in a serious condition. He set a very fine example to the men, and by his prompt action prevented further casualties.'
