Statement by Lt C.H. HATTEN, 60th Bn (patient, 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England), 5 February 1917: 'Barr was killed at Fromelles in No Mans (sic) Land during a charge.'

Second statement, 3479 Pte C.C. BARR, 60th Bn (patient, Brook War Hospital, Shooter's Hill, London, England; died of wounds, 31 August 1916), undated letter to mother: 'Dave got killed, he was with me up to the last minute, he said he wanted father to forgive him. We was (sic) in the trenches only for about 2 hours, then we done a charge. I was lying in "No man's land" for two days and two nights.'

Second letter, 3479 Pte C.C. BARR to mother: 'Dave got killed. I was lying down when he was speaking to me, he said he wanted father to forgive him for what he done some time back, he died a hero, Mother.'
