Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry. When holding an isolated position in the front line, during a heavy bombardment, the enemy attacked. But he had so strengthened his position, that he succeeded in repulsing the attack, and in holding his own, in spite of incessant shell fire.'

He organized and carried out two successcul attacks under the most difficult conditions, thereby capturing 500 yards of the enemy's trenches and sixty prisoners.
