Military Cross 'At Blackwood, east of Villers Bretonneux, on 28th August 1918, this officer displayed conspicuous courage and skill in establishing a patrol under heavy machine gun fire close to the enemy's position, and so placing a Lewis gun that its covering fire enabled the remainder of his company to advance without casualties. Later, he led his men over the open under heavy fire and reinforced a line which was seriously threatened. His dashing leadership proved an inspiration to all ranks with him.'
