Military Medal 'This man's conduct during the attack on POLYGON WOOD is worthy of the highest praise. On 26th September 1917 during the engagement he frequently took charge of small groups of men when his company was disorganised and worked them to the best advantage. His coolness and devotion to duty under fire was a fine example to his comrades. His work was of great assistance to his officers.'
