Distinguished Conduct Medal 'During the operations at Montbrehain on 5 October, 1918, he showed great gallantry. With four others he worked his way forward under heavy fire and outflanked a machine gun post, and effectively neutralized the fire. Three of the party became casualties, but, though virtually surrounded by the enemy he held on to his position throughout the day.'
