Hospitalised at Heliopolis a week after arrival in Egypt (diarrhoea and bronchitis. Medical report, 24 September 1915, noted both parents and an uncle died of phthisis; 'Disease was incipient on enlistment.'

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HS 'Karoola' for discharge (phthisis, i.e. pulmonary tuberculosis), 3 November 1915.
