Military Medal 'During the attack of the 31st Battalion from WARFUSEE-ABANCOURT on the 8th August 1918 this man did splendid work as a No. 1 Lewis Gunner, displaying great skill in the tactical handling of his weapon, and supplying covering fire for neighbouring sections on many occasions. He showed what can be done by a skilful and determined man using a Lewis Gun. On reaching the RED line he prevented a hostile gun crew from rescuing a 77 M M gun, which was abandoned by the enemy as a direct result of the accuracy of his fire.'
