Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty from 25 February to 16 September, 1918. As Lewis gun N.C.O., he has at all times carried out his duties in a very efficient manner. On the night of 22-23 August, forward of Proyard, when following the infantry during the advance, all his gunners and carriers became casualties in a heavy barrage. Unaided, he carried the wounded to a place of safety, and then advanced and joined his working party. He has always shown coolness and set a fine example to his section under fire.'
