'For conspicuous good service and devotion to duty. On 11th October, 1917, succeeded in fitting an Engine Charging Station up to SANS SOUCI on the YPRES Routes Railway through a heavily shelled area, and erecting the same. His work necessitated his passing backwards and forwards through heavy shelling for 3 days carrying up stores. Throughout the operations at YPRES from September to November, 1917, and previously did consistent good work.'
