'This N.C.O. did excellent liaison work at Herleville Wood on 23 August, 1918. As the advance proceeded he collected stragglers, and after a brisk fight succeeded in taking them forward and establishing them on the final objective. By his initiative and courage he undoubtedly relieved some of the pressure on the front line.'
