Embarked Melbourne, 1 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 14 September 1916; marched out to Chiseldon, 22 September 1916; taken on strength of Cycle Training Bn, 22 September 1916.

Found guilty, 13 November 1916, of being absent without leave from midnight, 6 November to midnight, 12 November 1916: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks and forfeited 6 days' pay.

Proceeded over seas to France, 1 January 1917; marched in to Australian General Base Depot, Etaples, France, 2 January 1917; marched out to 1st ANZAC Entrenching Bn, 19 January 1917; admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, 29 January 1917 (influenza); discharged to duty, 5 February 1917; rejoined unit, 7 February 1917.

Found guilty, 6 April 1917, of being absent without leave from midday to 5:00 pm, 5 April 1917: awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay.

Found guilty, 18 April 1917, of using insubordinate language to his superior officer: awarded forfeiture of 7 days' pay.
