Wounded in action, Gallipoli, 26 April 1915 (gun shot wound, right ankle); admitted to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 3 May 1915; discharged to Convalescent Depot, Mustapha, 7 May 1915.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 8 June 1916.

Found guilty, 19 July 1916, of drunkenness: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Relinquished appointment as Driver, 20 August 1916.

Seconded for duty with 4th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery, 21 August 1916.

Admitted to 44th Casualty Clearing Station, 4 September 1916 (injured hands); transferred to England and admitted to Military Hospital, Colchester, 8 September 1916; granted furlough, 29 September 1916; transferred from No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 17 October 1916; marched out to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 29 March 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 23 April 1917; discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 5 May 1917; total period of treatment for scabies: 13 days.

Admitted to Military Hospital, Wareham, 11 July 1917 (carbuncle); transferred to No 3 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 19 July 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 22 August 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Borda', 26 September 1917; arrived Melbourne, and re-embarked on board HT 'Suevic', 22 November 1917, for Brisbane; discharged, Brisbane, 2 January 1918.
